δρωπάζειν

δρωπάζειν
δρωπάζειν
Grammatical information: v.
Meaning: ἐμβλέπειν H., A. D. Adv. 139, 8; δρώπτειν [διακόπτειν η] διασκοπεῖν. Αἰσχύλος Ψυχαγωγοῖς (Fr. 278) H.
Origin: XX [etym. unknown]
Etymology: Frisk suggests a crossing of δέρκομαι, δρακεῖν and ὄπωπα, ὄψομαι, which is not very convincing. (Not with Zupitza Die germ. Gutturale 17 to Sk. darpaṇa- `mirror'.) A comparable reshaping in δρωκτάζεις (δροκ-) περιβλέπεις. (Latte compares the PN Δροκυλος (Argolis), but this may stand for Δρακυλος.) - On δράω = ὁράω s.v.
